Baby food for the week!

Yesterday we went to visit the doctor. I've been a little concerned since Kristian has been nursing less and doesn't drink much water. I try giving him a bottle or sippy cup of water but he will just play and spit it out!

The doctor said not to worry and he will get what he needs from solids. He suggested I give each food group twice a day. So today we will start our new menu.

I bought the jars of meat purée instead of making it. I made it once and so far I rather buy that. I do give small pieces of our cooked meat when I make it too.

I made lots of fruits and veggies today!

Apple and carrots
Butternut squash and pears
Zucchini
And blueberries!

Kris is also loving apple cinnamon oatmeal!

Homemade baby food, parsnips

Yesterday was my making baby food day. Although my freezer is pretty stocked up, I usually make pears and apples weekly since they are a favorite with baby K.

Yesterday I made a new veggie, parsnips. I peeled and chopped them up. Steamed for 15 minutes and then blended adding water to make it to the smoothness I wanted. We will try it out today!

So far peaches were a little to sour and baby was not a fan. Last week I made peas a little more chunky and baby K made hilarious faces every he swallowed haha!

Making baby food while baby sleeps ;)

Baby and I slept in today so we started our day pretty late.

We went out grocery shopping this afternoon. We bought fresh pears and apricots for baby food purée!

Baby K has been constipated a couple days because of the rice cereal. I switched to oat cereal for now. I read dried apricots help with that as well, however I couldn't find organic dried apricots. The ones I did find said they had traces of nuts which I was not going to risk. So I bought fresh ones to try out. A friend of mine suggests prune baby food, I'll get that next time I'm out.

Ahh Mom life ;)

Little one has been sleeping for an hour and I'm getting a lot done! But he just woke up as I'm writing this ha!

We also will be switching out of the infant car seat soon too! This little guy is getting heavy to carry!

Not so wordless Wednesday

I have lots of pics but lots to say too ha!

Today I decided to add a third feeding for baby boy. I added a Farley biscuit mixed with water for breakfast. Baby K seems to have a 9am wake up time the past 5 days. So at 9am I nursed him and 9:30 he had breakfast. Lunch will be at 12pm and he will have cereal and apple purée then dinner at 5pm cereal and butternut squash ;)

Yesterday was stroller fitness. The class is great and it's such a good workout! My body is sore today!

The weather has been amazing! But we haven't turned our AC on yet and boy does the house get hot! My husband had the window in the office open and Zoe jumped out!!!! But we got her back in quickly whew!

Hope you are all having a great week.

Pics in no order using the blogger app ;)

Been busy busy!

The weekend was busy with lots of get togethers and running around the city. This week is a continuation of that.

We saw family and friends this weekend and had a great time!

Yesterday we went to see the venue for Baby K's baptism. ;) I also placed the order for his cake too! Lots of planning! Just 2 months away!

Today we had a nice lunch at our cousins house. She made a delicious healthy lunch ;)

Today I also got a early mothers day gift! The iPad 3! Yay!! Baby K is already all over it!

Baby K has been changing ad growing so much! Yesterday he was able to grab his floating duckies in his bath. He also cries when he leaves the bath because he wants to play longer!

He is really trying to use his screams to get what he wants these days. Oh boy!

Today he tried apples! He doesn't like his cereal that much so today I had to dip the cereal in the squash and feed him at the same time!

Another busy day tomorrow! Hope you all are having a great week so far.

Making baby food Pears

This week we tried pears!

I used 2 pears, peeled cut out the seeds, chopped them up and steamed them for about 8 minutes.

I then blended them into a purée. I did not add any water since the pears are pretty juicy themselves.

Monday I made pear and butternut squash purée for the whole week. I placed 2 days of the cubes in the fridge and the rest in the freezer.

I've been giving baby boy pears at lunch and butternut at dinner. However yesterday I mixed pears and squash together for both meals.

Next week we will be on to apples and sweet potato.

Yum!!!

Making Baby Food Butternut Squash!

Yesterday I made Butternut squash for my little boy.

It was my first time making this.. ever.. ha!

I first washed it under cold water and dried it.
 Then cut the ends off...
Then in half... It's like a pumpkin, ha!
Scoop out seeds and peel it. My littler peeler was not that great so I ended up using a knife to peel it.
I chopped it up and put it in my steam pot. (you can use your regular stove stop steamer )
Let it cool then blend! I added about 1oz -2oz water. Add more or less depending on how thick or thin you want your puree.
I then filled up my little containers and placed some in the fridge and some in the freezer. I read that in the fridge pre-made baby food is good for 2-3 days.
Yummy!
Kristian loved it! I gave it to him for lunch and dinner yesterday and will do the same today!

We have tried, Avocado, Banana, Carrots, and Butternut squash!

A couple weeks ago I entered in this giveaway from Stephanie over at http://www.howtosurvivelifeinthesuburbs.com/2012/04/nutrition-on-go-go-with-gerber.html

 And I won it!!!! whooooooo!
Gerber graduates products! I'm familiar with these because my niece loved so many of these goodies. Look at all these goodies!!! All the items are for 9 months plus, so we need to wait a little bit before we try them. But we are excited.
 Happy boy!

Kris will be 6 months Sunday! As of this week he is 15lbs! :)

Making baby food is soo easy!

 Making Baby Food!

I love making my little one his food at this beginning stage of trying new foods.
So far my little one has had Avocados, bananas and carrots.

I use the Hamilton beach Pot to steam the foods that will need to be steamed, like the carrots and when I move on to apples, butternut squash, sweet potato and etc!

I also use the Hamilton beach hand held blender. I got this blender as a shower gift.  It's so easy to use and easy to clean!

I posted this picture last week when I made carrot puree.
I used organic carrots, washed and peeled them and chopped them up and steamed them.  I added about 150ml water and blended it. I can use more or less water depending on how thick or thin I want the Puree. Then I used my little containers to store the left overs in the fridge to use the rest of the week. I love doing that! Kinda easier than making the avocado or banana where it needs to be made daily.

So far my little one is loving lunch and dinner.  I first nurse him then give him his little meal about 20 minutes afterwards. When I started I waited an hour in between, but I made it closer now.  I feed him at 12pm and 6pm :)

Making baby food is really so easy. I'm glad I'm doing it too!

Introducing solids, cereal and fruit! Veggies to come

Starting baby on solids has been really fun so far. It took a couple weeks for him to get the hang of eating off a spoon and swallowing. But it has been a success! We started rice cereal last month and Kristian has been eating rice cereal everyday now twice a day.

I'm reading a book called Sprout Right by Lianne Phillipson-Webb (this is not a review) and she talks about which foods to start first. She actually states that many moms skip cereal all together. My doctor recommended rice cereal so we followed what our doctor suggests as well. In her book she also talks about how breastmilk and formula are pretty sweet and that it's ok to start with fruits first. She has lots of recipes which is great for me to follow.

So I decided to start Kristian on Avocado's as his first fruit! I also wanted to pick something easy for me as well as I transition into becoming mommy chef :)

I blended 1/2 a avocado with 1 oz formula (I was going to use breastmilk but I was lazy to pump!)

Our second fruit of choice will be bananas, I'll introduce one new food every 3 days to make sure baby boy has no reactions. Next week I will start with some veggies, sweet potato and butternut squash!

First day of solids for baby boy

When I went for Kristian's 4 month check up our doctor said I can start him on rice cereals. I was going to wait until 20 weeks, but decided to start this week a week sooner haha!

Yesterday was the first taste!!

I only gave him a small spoon of it for just a taste. He was so cute. Today we tried again, I made it more runny this time.

Once he takes a tablespoon on cereal a couple times a day for a couple weeks, then we will move on to avocados!!! Yay!!

Yesterday his new personalized bibs came in too, perfect timing!

Here is the video of the first taste. I laugh when I hear my voice on my videos. I really need to think about this everytime I take a video. I should, it's hilarious. So just pay attention to baby k's facial expressions ;)
